The people I paint are part of nature and her conditions The whole picture is a part of all relationships: symbols, forms, objects within the paintings and also the paintings themselves are two dimensional structures and relationships. They imply tensions, actions and counteractions, which are the patterns of life itself. Colour is inseparable from the eye that is perceptive to it. Colour as an idea of harmony, or as close as we can get to it, removed from habitual surroundings of experiencing nature in situ, it’s artificial counterpart. Making the uncommon from the common by addition or subtraction of elements in painting - both old and new.
How can one show movement or feel it, while keeping completely still?
The plane can move through the mind and eye. Water is emotion, a symbol, an interpretation of self and beginning of life. Nature and it’s curves perhaps an intimate or a complementing side to our culture’s straight and narrow grid. Emotion and discipline, behind appearances. Both relate to and are expressed through the act of painting.
